Sunset Devlog #3 – Magic & Gems

Salutations! I hope you all are doing well in the midst of this strange season of life. I have for you the third Storysinger Presents devlog, & I hope it lifts your spirits.

Since Storysinger Presents is still getting our name out there, here’s a quick note on what we’re all about:

Storysinger Presents is a game development group with one goal: to create & elevate story-driven games. We create our own great narrative games, as well as promote those being developed by other talented game developers.

What does elevating story-driven games means? Well, it means supporting great narrative projects via retweets, streams…and giveaways! In fact, we’re running a giveaway for the game The Beginner’s Guide right now! More info on how to enter here.

Now, let’s talk about Sunset. Here’s what it’s about:

Kay is a magic research and development officer at one of the greatest corporations in the country. She loves her life, and her job. But today, after work, she’ll be forced to do something that proves just how lonely her life truly is. Because today, she signs the divorce papers.

This is a story about a magical society, and one woman’s life within it as a stage of her life comes to an end.

This week, I mainly focused on coding the script into the game, & I’m happy to announce it’s been 100% coded! This means next week, I can start recording & implementing music & sound design for the game, which is very exciting. Next week, in this devlog, I’ll be sure to talk more about the music and my musical inspirations as I compose the score.

Now, I’d like to share a little more about the game’s magical world. In its universe, spells are cast by using gems as a catalyst for energy. The gem is used up in the process, and disintegrates as part of the spell. Part of Kay’s job is to create new spells with existing gems, a job which can be harder than it seems! Nevertheless, she loves her job very much.

Here’s a screenshot of Kay casting a spell with a gem:

Different types of spells require different types of gems, & more of this is revealed as the story goes on.

To finish off for today, here are some final screenshots from Sunset. I’m very happy to share these with you!

See you next devlog! Until then, I will continue to be:
