Sunset Devlog #4 – Music & Soundscapes

Hello everyone! I hope you’re doing alright in this time, as I know it’s very difficulty for some people. Today, I present the fourth Storysinger Presents devlog to you.

Since Storysinger Presents is still getting our name out there, here’s a quick note on what we’re all about:

Storysinger Presents is a game development group with one goal: to create & elevate story-driven games. We create our own great narrative games, as well as promote those being developed by other talented game developers.

What does elevating story-driven games means? Well, it means supporting great narrative projects via retweets, streams…and giveaways! In fact, we’re running a giveaway for the game Alone With You right now! More info on how to enter here.

Now, let’s talk about Sunset. Here’s what it’s about:

Kay is a magic research and development officer at one of the greatest corporations in the country. She loves her life, and her job. But today, after work, she’ll be forced to do something that proves just how lonely her life truly is. Because today, she signs the divorce papers.

This is a story about a magical society, and one woman’s life within it as a stage of her life comes to an end.

This week was extraordinarily productive for me. I recorded, edited/mixed, & implemented all the music & sound design for the game, which means Sunset is now feature complete! It’s currently in the beta testing stage, so if you’re interested in testing, please message us on Twitter.

Now, let’s talk about the music. In composing it, I was inspired by minimalist musicians, especially Steve Reich. The visual design of Sunset is focused on minimalism, & I wanted to make sure I had a soundtrack that mirrored this type of design. So, you’ll hear a lot of repeating and evolving patterns within the music, as will as hypnotic repetition.

Here’s a short sampler of the soundtrack, so you can have an idea of what to expect.

See you next devlog! Until then, I will continue to be:
